Subject: Ghana Numerical Analysis Seminars, ONLINE, 2021
We are glad to announce that Ghana Numerical Analysis was founded in
December 2020. Ghana Numerical Analysis as the name rightly suggests,
aims to increase visibility of numerical analysis in Ghana through
workshops, seminars and conferences.
This year, we are organizing monthly online seminars. These seminars
aim at providing a forum for exchanging ideas and presenting advances
in the field of Numerical Analysis and its applications. The seminars
will cover a wide range of topics in the field, such as Numerical
Optimization, Numerical Linear Algebra, methods for the numerical
solution and analysis of ODEs and PDEs, Approximation Theory and
Algorithms, Numerical Bifurcation Analysis, in both the deterministic
and stochastic setting, with a wide range of applications, from Image
Processing to Machine Learning and Neural Networks, Complex Systems
and other challenging problems of contemporary interest in Science and
Engineering.
Please, have a look at
https://sites.google.com/view/ghananumericals/seminars/2021 for
details. The seminars will be delivered by Google Meet and the
attendees are kindly required to sign-up on the web site to receive
the link. We look forward to your participation!

Subject: Modeling and Optimization: Theory and Applications, HYBRID, Aug 2021
We wish to invite you to contribute to the 21st annual "Modeling and
Optimization: Theory and Applications" (MOPTA 2021) conference, August
2-4, 2021. The MOPTA conference brings together researchers from a
broad range of optimization areas, working on theoretical or applied
aspects, or both. For more information, please see:
http://coral.ie.lehigh.edu/~mopta/.
Our objective is to offer presentations and discussions of exciting
new developments from different areas of optimization, and to provide
a convenient setting which allows increased interaction among the
participants. We welcome contributed presentations, and invite you to
organize a session(s) centered around your area of expertise. The
MOPTA conference sessions consist of (blocks of) three 30-minute
presentations, including Q&A. Please register and submit your abstract
via the MOPTA 2021 website (http://coral.ie.lehigh.edu/~mopta/). The
conference website offers more information.
Current University, Commonwealth, and National guidelines indicate
that we will be able to offer an in-person component in MOPTA 2021
with an option for remote attendance. This format accommodates the
wishes of participants and speakers who would like to attend remotely,
while still offering the in-person experience for those who would like
to attend in- person. So, MOPTA 2021 will be offered in an innovative
dual VIRT/IPVS mode. Participants will select between two attendance
modes (all guests will experience the talks in the same format):
- Virtual (VIRT), as meetings have been held during the pandemic (via
Zoom). VIRT participants and speakers will actually not be able to
tell that there is another mode.
- In-Person Virtual-Sharing (IPVS), as on-campus meetings were held
before the pandemic with the single exception that all speakers will
present remotely. IPVS participants will be able to attend talks
together in rooms equipped with large screens and room sound
system. Questions are asked via personal laptops and/or cell phones
in the Zoom chat. IPVS participants will share an in-person social
program (coffee breaks, lunches, dinners, etc.). IPVS speakers will
be assigned a room/office to deliver their talks remotely using
their laptops, and can then interact in-person with IPVS
participants after their virtual talks.

Subject: Parallel-in-Time Workshop, HYBRID, Aug 2021
Michigan Tech is pleased to host the 10th Workshop on Parallel Time
Integration, August 1 - August 5, 2021. Invited plenary speakers
include: Professor George Karniadakis (Brown University), Professor
Ulrich Langer (Johannes Kepler University Linz), Dr. Carol Woodward
(Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), and Dr. Ben Southworth (Los
Alamos National Laboratory). For more information, please visit
http://conferences.math.mtu.edu/
Due to the ever changing dynamics of the pandemic, this conference
will be held in a hybrid format. Participants have the option to
present and attend virtually or in-person. There is no registration
fee for either option. CDC guidelines for masks and social distancing
will be observed. We strongly encourage that in-person attendees be
fully vaccinated. Travel support is available for early career
researchers (students or researchers who have held their graduate
degree for fewer than ten years at the time of application). Travel
support requests received by June 20, 2021 are assured of full
consideration. Priority is given to participants giving a
presentation.

Subject: PhD Position, Computational Mathematics, Fraunhofer ITWM, Germany
A PhD position is available in the numerical mathematics group at the
Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, in the area of meshfree
numerical methods for partial differential equations. The position is
funded by a scholarship from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial
Mathematics (Fraunhofer ITWM) in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The PhD
candidate will be based at the Fraunhofer ITWM in Kaiserslautern.
The project will be devoted to the assessment of the quality of point
clouds used in meshfree methods for solving PDEs, and its influence on
the accuracy and stability of simulations in computational fluid
dynamics. This will be done with special emphasis on two meshfree
methods: meshfree generalized finite difference method (GFDM), and
radial basis functions - finite differences (RBF-FD).
